Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how the Rune Launcher website and desktop application handle information.
Rune Launcher is an independently operated software project developed and published under the SeptyStudios name.
In this policy, “Rune,” “Rune Launcher,” “SeptyStudios,” “we,” and “us” refer to the Rune Launcher project and its operator.
Rune Launcher and SeptyStudios do not currently represent a separately incorporated company.
Scope
This policy covers the Rune website at https://rune-launcher.com, the official Rune download service at https://downloads.rune-launcher.com, official Rune downloads and the Rune Launcher desktop application.
It does not control Microsoft, Minecraft, Discord, mod distribution services or other third-party websites and services. Their own policies apply when you use them.
Information the website may process
The public website is designed to provide product information, interface previews, legal documents and download links. It does not currently include account registration, payments, advertising profiles or forms that intentionally collect personal information.
Basic technical information may still be processed by the hosting provider when the site is requested, as described under Website logs.
Information handled by Rune Launcher
Rune processes installation information, configured Minecraft versions and loaders, mod selections, launcher preferences, local playtime records and similar launcher data on the user's device.
This information normally remains on the user's device and is not sent to SeptyStudios servers.
Rune communicates with external services only when required for a feature the user uses, such as Microsoft authentication, checking for launcher updates, downloading Rune releases, retrieving Minecraft or account information, searching for mods or downloading selected content.
Account authentication
Rune does not request or store your Microsoft password. Microsoft authentication is completed through Microsoft services. Microsoft may process authentication and account information according to its own privacy terms.
Authentication tokens or session-related information may be stored locally so Rune can keep a session active. Do not share those files or session data.
Local launcher data
Rune may store launcher preferences, installation information and session-related data locally on the user's device. Local data can include installation names, selected versions and loaders, game directories, mod state, the last used account, playtime and appearance preferences.
Removing Rune or deleting its local data may remove saved preferences or sessions. Minecraft files stored in a separate location may need to be removed separately.
Uninstalling Rune may leave launcher preferences, cached information and Minecraft installations on the device so that user-created game data is not deleted unexpectedly.
Website and download logs
The website host, download host or network provider may create standard request logs for reliability, security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
These logs can include an IP address, request time, requested page or file, browser or launcher information, referring page and technical error details.
SeptyStudios does not use these logs to create advertising profiles.
Request logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention and applicable legal obligations, subject to the configured practices of the relevant infrastructure provider.
Third-party services
Rune may interact with Microsoft authentication, Minecraft-related account services and mod distribution services. These providers receive the normal request information and any account, search or download details needed to complete a feature the user requests.
Third-party services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Rune does not control their retention, security or availability.
Discord community links
The website links to an external Rune Discord community for support, release updates and announcements. After you leave the Rune website, Discord's own privacy policy and account settings apply. The Rune website does not automatically join you to a Discord server.
Download services and external links
Official Rune release metadata and installer files are delivered through downloads.rune-launcher.com. Standard request information may be processed when the launcher or website requests the release manifest or when a user downloads an installer.
Other external links are provided for convenience. Their destinations operate under their own policies.
Data retention
Locally stored Rune data generally remains on the device until the user changes or removes it. Authentication tokens or session information may remain until sign-out or local deletion.
Website and download request logs follow the operational criteria described in Section 07. Information handled by third-party services follows the relevant provider's retention practices and policies.
Data security
Reasonable care should be used when handling sessions, account files and downloads, but no software or transmission method can guarantee complete security. Keep the operating system updated, download Rune from an official source and never send session data to another person.
Children's privacy
Rune is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children through the public website. Younger users should use Microsoft, Minecraft, Discord and other connected services only with the permission and supervision required by their local law and the relevant provider.
International users
Rune may be accessed from different countries. Website hosting and third-party services may process information in countries other than the user's own. Applicable privacy rights and transfer rules can vary by location.
Legal bases, choices and rights
We process limited website and download request information where necessary for our legitimate interests in operating, securing and troubleshooting Rune's services.
Requests initiated by the user, such as authentication, update checks, content searches and downloads, are processed as necessary to provide the requested function.
Where optional technologies require consent under applicable law, they will not be enabled before the required choice is provided.
You can choose whether to download Rune, connect a Microsoft account, create a launcher profile, open Discord or use third-party mod services. Local preferences can usually be changed or removed from the launcher or device.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of personal information, as well as rights to data portability and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
Requests involving Microsoft, Discord, hosting or other third parties may need to be directed to that provider.
Policy changes and contact
This policy may change when Rune's features, website or connected services change. The updated date at the top will be revised when material changes are published.
